Paul's 27

Happy Birthday to the love of my life!! Even though it's not his "golden birthday" I thought it would still be fun to make a list of 27 things you may or may not know about Paul, in honor if him turning 27! Keep in mind these are facts that I wrote about him, so they are at least interesting to me, i doubt he would have compiled the same list. But, that's the perk of being the only blogger in the fam, so here you are:

1. Paul was a big wrestler in high school. Most people would think that football was his main sport in high school but it was actually wrestling. He was an all-state wrestler and captain of his team and he was really good.
2. He went to Alaska while we were engaged and he shot a black bear. Right after he shot his bear, when the camera came up to him, he said "That's for you Cortney!" His first thought after he shot this huge mammal that now hangs as a rug in our office was that he was so proud and that it would impress me and I would love it. Sweet thought, although I will say he had some things to learn.
3. Paul does NOT grow good facial hair. He's actually not a very hairy person to begin with, which i appreciate but when it comes to his facial hair all the grows is a slight mustache and a "Brigham Beard" as we call it (just a strip around his chin) I think he would like to grow a better beard but i'm ok with it.
4. Paul served his mission in West Africa and he LOVES Africa and the people there. He is still very involved with what goes on there and the members and the area. The members in Ghana will still call him on the phone to say hi sometimes and you can always tell if he is talking to one of them because usually it will be at kind of a weird time and immediately he reverts back to his "Ghanian accent" of talking. They only talk for a few minutes because it is so expensive to call but i think it it so sweet that they keep in touch.

 5. His favorite movie is Man From Snowy River. So random, and i don't know when the last time he watched it was but he maintains that as his favorite.
6. When Paul was little for the first like 4-5 years of his life he was a cowboy. He only wanted to wear cowboy clothes... plaid shirts, jeans, cowboy hats, boots, chaps. Even when it was super hot in the summer he wore his cowboy clothes.

7. I have only seen him cry once. It was the day before we were married when i went to the temple for the first time. It was a really sweet and spiritual experience and that is the only time i have ever seen him cry. (Technically he has cried twice though because he cried in the hospital when he broke his back but i wasn't in the room at the time.)
8. Paul knows A LOT about working out and fitness. He really enjoys being active but he would also be such a good personal trainer. He likes working out with people better than alone and whenever he works out with someone he is really helpful and encouraging. He knows a lot about what workouts would be good to do and supplements to take and stuff like that. He is a really good athlete and coach.
9. He is becoming quite the handyman. I wouldn't say that this has always been a strong suit for him but he has been improving a ton. He does electrical stuff and building and painting and all kinds of things and he is really good at figuring out how to do and fix things around the house.
10. He is the biggest softie for his girls... namely me, Caitlin and his mom. He has a very tender heart inside of his manly man exterior and he is so sweet.
 11. He is colorblind. A lot of people forget this about him. But he is REALLY colorblind. He can see red and yellow all the time but the other ones look different to him and get all jumbled up.
12. His favorite candy is Charleston Chews. He especially likes the old chewy ones and also freezing them.
13. He hardly ever drinks soda because it is so bad for you. It's pretty rare that he would ever choose to buy a soda at a restaurant or anything.
14. He loves listening to instrumental piano music. I wish I could play better for him, and that we had a piano i guess.
15. Paul would prefer that I pick out his outfit everyday. He blames it on the colorblindness but really I think he just likes me to do it.
16. Paul makes up songs all the time. He doesn't like to sing for reals or in church or anything but he makes up little songs to sing to Caitlin and stuff and they are actually really good. He can also throw down some pretty mad rhymes while he's freestyle rapping (i've been told).
17. When Paul was around 1, his family was getting ready to go for a trip and packing the car so the keys were left in the ignition. Paul hopped in the front seat and somehow managed to crash their car into the garage!

18. Paul is actually a really good cook. I usually always put him in charge of the meat for dinners if he is helping but he can make a mean wedge salad and a bunch of other stuff. I know i'm going to eat well whenever I get to have him cook for me!
19. When Paul was in high school he had what he still says is THE coolest car. It was named Trivette. And he paid for it and put a lot of work into it and almost all his crazy high school shenanigans took place with the help of Trivette. He says he wants to find it and buy it back. He also really wants an old muscle car and wants to restore it. Or an old jeep to tool around in.

20. He hates olives.

21. He is very meticulous about car maintenance. He loves to clean his car and is awesome about always getting timely oil changes and stuff like that. He has certain car mats that he likes and he has always taken great pride in keeping his cars looking nice.

22. He has pretty sensitive skin. He blames it on a weakened immune system since after his mission but he gets rashes or reactions so easily to things. He has to use a certain type of soap and stuff. He probably wouldn't want anyone to know that about him though.

23. He has the most amazing willpower. If he says he is going to do something, he will do it and usually will get started right then and there. When he broke his back, they told him he would have to wear a brace for 3-6 months and he promised me he would have it off in 3. And he did.

24. Paul used to eat the neighbor's cat food when he was little. He and Jeff would go eat it and their mom kept telling them not too. So one morning for breakfast she put dried cat food in their bowls and told them if they were going to be going over and eating it then they might as well just eat it for breakfast. Of course they were both repulsed and it stopped their nasty habit (Lorraine is such a smart mom). Paul also ate A LOT of chapstick as a child. He was known for this by all his relatives. They would hide it when he came to visit and he could always sniff it out. (Caitlin gets it from him).

25. Paul is super into food storage and emergency preparedness. At least lately he has been. You would think that I would be the one pushing this since i am the one who makes our meals and i am such a planner but it's Paul. He made us go out and buy a huge shelving system and hundreds of canned foods and we have cereal and water and whatever else we thought would be handy to have in case of emergency. I'm grateful that he is looking out for us but it is so overwhelming to me!

26. Paul is incredibly... "passionate". I tell him he's dramatic but he prefers passionate. He puts his heart and soul into everything he does and he has a big reaction for everything that happens. He has such a dynamic personality and keeps me laughing all the time. I love this about him.
27. He has had a really hard time with this year's birthday. He feels like he is getting old. He totally has a Peter Pan mentality... the boy who never ages. He loves life and playing and having fun, but i'm positive that mentality will never go away. So HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANYWAYS! LOVE YOU!
