5 months old

Caitlin at 5 months is:
-Still a wonderful baby! She really is my little pride and joy. I get excited to see her every morning and I miss her after she goes to bed at night ( most times).
-She sleeps through the night. We usually put her to bed between 8:30-9:00 PM and she wakes up between 8-9AM. I know, I'm counting my blessings.
-I LOVE waking her up in the morning because she usually just waked up and talks in her crib and then when we go in to get her she is so happy to see us I love starting my day with her.
-Eating 4 times a day, 7 ounces of milk plus 1-2 times with rice cereal. She's not loving eating off of a spoon but she is getting better. She LOVES getting her bottle. She grabs it when she sees it and usually will hold it by herself.
-Likes to grab for anything, especially my hair and neck. And toys. She's got a death grip.
-Smiles, laughs and talks a lot throughout the day.
-Usually Takes good morning naps, but only really short afternoon ones.
-Still loves her binky and being snuggled in a blanket to go to sleep.
-Still loves bath time.
-Loves to be kissed and tickled and loves give wet slobbery kisses back. Maybe gross if you're not one of her parents but I love it.
-Still spits up a lot... that's been an unfortunate/embarrassing event a few times.
-Continues to dazzle us by rolling over a couple times a day. Also scoots a lot. I'll put her down and minutes later she'll be a couple feet away or turned around facing the opposite direction. I still don't know exactly how she does it.
-She can sit up for a few seconds by herself, and sits really well when supported.
-Still talks a lot and has recently learned to make this really high-pitched squeal/squeaky noise. It's really funny and a little bit weird after awhile when I'm pushing her stroller and these loud bird-like noises are coming out. Sometimes she will really get on a roll and starts talking and just never stops. And she really thinks everyone is listening to her and she is part of the conversation. And at that point, she is.

Home Sweet Home

WE BOUGHT A HOUSE!! We could not be more excited right now. We've been looking for the past month and today we officially signed papers and put money down. We are under contract and set to move in around March 1. We had a really fun time looking for houses, but when we got out of the car on this one, before we had even stepped foot into the house Paul said "This is it. I'm gonna buy this house" We absolutely love it and the whole process has been so fast but very prayerful and painless. It is in Cedar Hills, in the Juniper Heights neighborhood. It has 3 bedrooms and a loft, but it also has a full unfinished basement (a fun project for the future!). Here is a tour (via pictures from the internet):

eating

Here's a video of Caitlin eating her rice cereal. We had been giving it to her for about a week when I took this (on January 13th). I felt like this was the first time feeding her that she was really starting to get the hang of it and open her mouth and swallow. She does really well for a few minutes and then she gets frustrated and doesn't want to anymore and just wanted her bottle (hence her whiny face in between bites). Baby steps.

wild woman

Whenever we put Caitlin to bed at night or for a nap, we swaddle her and giver her a binky. Usually the binky doesn't last too long in the mouth, but she'll stay pretty wrapped up to sleep. Until lately. She's been a wild one in that crib! I wish i had taken pictures to document but this was an interesting series of events:
#1: We hear her screaming at 4 in the morning (not usual) and i go in there and find that she had rolled over in her crib and then was scared and didn't ow how to get back over! Her little arms and legs were just flailing around. It was sad but kind of funny too. So we got her out and wrapped her up again and calmed her down back to sleep.
#2: We put her down for a nap wrapped in a blanket and then we heard her a little while later so we went up to get her from her nap and find her completely unwrapped, completely turned around with her head in the opposite direction from where she started.
#3: In the morning when she wakes up she just kinda talks to herself and laughs and squeals and is happy. So we usually wake up because we can hear her talking. I heard her a little bit so i checked our video monitor and i see she is pulling the toes of her onesie jammies and sucking on the feet and she had scooted herself into the very top corner of the crib.

She's a wild woman. We haven't had anything too our of the ordinary since those things, because I've been sure to wrap her tight and put her in a sleep sack so she can't move around as freely. So far so good. And a good night's sleep!

4 months old

Little Miss Caitlin is (over) 4 months old now! She gets more and more fun everyday. I love waking up to a new adventure every morning. I love that she is getting older and progressing, but it also makes me sad to see my little baby growing up so fast.

Here are a few things I want to remember about her:
-She still has a really happy disposition. She smiles all the time, and it usually doesn't take too much coaxing for anyone to get a smile out of her. She is really such a sweet baby.
-She has become quite a temperamental napper! She will sleep for an hour (at the most) and think she's done. Sometimes she really is but usually i can get her to go back to sleep.. as long as i'm holding her. I swear she has an internal sensor that tells her when she's been set down. She'll wake up right away. I've gotten really good at doing things one-handed.
-She loves watching football with daddy, her eyes are completely glued to the tv. Sometimes he will kinda watch the tv if something else is on, but if it's football there's no tearing her away. Which Paul loves of course. We'll see how basketball season goes.
-She is rolling over here and there. She usually won't do a full roll but wheneer shes on the ground she rolls way over on both sides. However she did roll over just for daddy on Jan. 1st and he was so excited to get to see her.
-She also scoots. She kinda arches her back and kicks her legs and i don't really know how she works it but she moves. I'll put her down and next thing i know she's 2 feet away from where i put her.
-She was sleeping completely through the night until we went on vacation, i'm hoping she picks it back up soon! She goes to bed between 8-9PM
-She likes being held looking out and loves watching everything around her. Although she will be held the other way too, as long as she can look over your shoulder.
-She loves to “fly” on her tummy. Either holding her up, or we lay on our back and put her up on our feet. She squeals and smiles the whole time.
-She eats about 7 ounces, every 4-5 hours. She's a little peanut though, she is way below average for weight so she's pretty tiny still.. gotta get some meat on her bones. I just love her little body though. She's a petite little lady.
-She is really drooley and still spits up a fair amount. Kinda gross i know. She still loves munching on her hands and she sucks on her tongue and looks like she's eating something.
-She's starting to play more with her toys and on her own, but only if i'm not there to entertain her. As soon as she sees me she acts like she wasn't doing anything.
So there's everything you could ever want to know! She's such a doll!

top 10 of 2010

2010 was an excellent year for us. Here's our top 10 highlights of the past year:
(in chronological order, not importance)
1. January 1st, 2010: Found out I was pregnant! What an amazing adventure that started!

2. Our family trip to Spain in June was the trip of a lifetime and a needed break.

3. Paul got his truck in July. A new car may seem like a worldly thing to include on our top ten, but i don't care who you ask: when you get your dream car, it's a highlight.

4. Mike and Jenna were married in August and it has been really fun welcoming in a new sister in law. We love living close to them.

5. Our little angel baby Caitlin Lorae was born August 27th and I have never been more obsessed with anything in my life.

6. Cassie came BYU to start school in September and we've loved her close by as well. It's really fun having all my sisters together and I also love the power of enticement for my parents it brings (especially adding in the grandbaby) Thus, another highlight was having lots of family visit often this year which we always love.

7. Got our first niece, Madison and first nephew, Cason in October and November. We love those little munchkins and it's so fun to have cousins so close in age.

8. Surprised Christine, Chris and Cason with a visit for Thanksgiving and had a wonderful time in Austin for our first Thanksgiving with the Dicksons.

9. Were all spoiled rotten during the Holiday break with not only gifts but good times and lots of fun with family.

10. Paul officially sold his company, Meter Solutions, to Goldman Sachs/APX on December 30th. He will now be working over at APX as an executive director of their new Smartgrid Solutions division. We are excited for this opportunity and are anxious to see what this year brings as we stay here in Utah and (YAY) buy a house and really put down roots.

2011 in Austin

We did get to see Paul's family as well this trip. We went to Austin for New Year's and it was a short visit but a good one. Paul went shooting, they had a big New Year's eve party, got to see cute little Cason growing up, went to Rudy's, showed off our dance moves with the kinect (so fun i want one), got our "second christmas" and got some awesome gifts from the Dicksons, went hot tubbing, had an amazing dinner at Pappadeaux's and mostly enjoyed being with family.

1. Cute cousins! Cason and Caitlin 2. "flying" with Aunt Rebekah 3. love the Meads! 4. Happy 2011!! 5. Cassie came with us too! (for obvious reasons) 6. Watching football games with dad --her eyes are GLUED to the tv whenever football's on!

Caitlin's 1st Christmas

I think she had a good one. She woke up around 7:15 (early for her... but who can blame her? no one can sleep in on Christmas morning!) So we just played with her in our room until 9:00 when we all went downstairs.

By that time she was pretty tired but she was still awake for a little while so she got to see all her things from Santa and then she got to open all her presents first! Grandma held her and she watched.
She got some adorable books, clothes and toys. One little toy in particular she didn't let go of all morning.
She took a little cat nap while the rest of us were opening presents and then she was back to watching.
During the day she played with some of her new toys.
Then we all went to see the Christmas decorations at the Gaylord Texan.
Merry Christmas Baby!

Christmas in Southlake

We got to spend Christmas with my family this year at my parent's house in Southlake. The first time since Chelsea & Tyler got married for us all to be together for Christmas. My mom was so cute and made sure that every one of our holiday requests were granted (mostly food items) and we did most of our old traditions. The whole break was so relaxing. We ate, played games, saw the lights at the Gaylord, ate, went to the Galleria, did a puzzle, went to the temple, watched movies, ate and most of all got to spend time together. It was wonderful!

welcome home

yes, i know everyone is dieing to hear about our holiday vacation / shocked that i haven't blogged anything about it yet. But let's begin with a little story:

Yesterday, we woke up at 3 AM (after already  driving 3 hours from austin and going to bed at 12) We got in the car with Cassie and Caitlin and started the long trek from Dallas back to Provo. I will admit, i had it easier than my husband. I slept a little. He drove. Then when i finally took a turn to drive, i had been driving for 30 mins. and Caitlin started screaming for food. Duty calls. So, Paul is an animal and pretty much drove 18 hours straight (although he would correct me and say it was 17 hrs. 45 mins. because "we made great time") with no sleep. We had one little melt down with the baby screaming but all in all she did really well in the hated carseat for so long so that was a huge blessing. We finally made it home after snow packed roads (someone needs to introduce New Mexico to a decent snow plow) and a touch-and-go Price canyon.

Home sweet home. First order of business: unpack the car. Second: give Caitlin a much needed bath and put her to bed. Lo and behold, our house turned into an ice castle when we were gone and something froze in the tub and it won't drain. CLOGGED. So, we make do with the sink and put her to bed and Paul gets to work on unclogging. He sends me to the store to grab some dran-o and i take off. As i'm pulling into a parking spot at the grocery store, i suddenly notice police lights behind me. How long had they been there? no clue. Was i being pulled over in the fresh market parking lot? indeed. I (calmly and politely) explained the sitution to the officer and LUCKILY didn't get a ticket. But what are the chances?! We make a 18 hour road trip twice without tickets and not even an hour after we get home i almost get a ticket driving 2 blocks from my house. WOW.

So, now i sit here still unshowered because no, the drain hasn't unclogged yet and trying to get my baby back on her schedule after an amazing, wonderful, joyous, generous, treasured holiday season... so you'll get to hear about THAT later.
Caitlin hasn't quite mastered rolling over yet, but she sure can dance! See for yourself:

and in case you need another performance, we've got more tricks up our sleeves:
